Scott Dunnet
As some of you may know, cancer has touched my mother's side of my family with the loss of my grandfather, Arthur Swanson to prostate cancer & leukemia as well as my aunt June Swanson to lung cancer while my other aunt, Ivy Michels, is a breast cancer survivor. I rode in memory of June in Lance Armstrong's ride in 2007 in support of the BC Cancer Foundation & again in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013 in the Ride to Conquer Cancer in support of others touched by cancer, team co-captain Wayne Oberst, a mutual friend, Lisa Sepp & a co-worker at Crestron Canada, Angela Gibson.
Unfortunately, Lisa lost her 2+ year battle with brain cancer Nov 22/2010. Wayne & I have re-dedicated ourselves to this cause again for the fifth year in a row & it is our goal to exceed the fundraising effort from last year & encourage everyone to join our team for this inspirational ride coming up in June 2014.
This year I'm dedicating my ride to my friend Andrew Putt's daughter, Lilee-Jean Putt. Lilee-Jean, at only 10 months old, was diagnosed with an agressive form of brain cancer called gliobastoma in Oct 2011. Andrew & his band, Pardon My Striptease had supported Rock the $#@! Out of Cancer during LJ's battle & in Dec 2011 challenged & beat out Nickelback for the #1 spot on iTunes for their song "Pray (for LJ)". Through her two-year battle with cancer, LJ had an ever present smile & you'd never know that she was in a fight for her life. Unfortunately, this cowardly disease we call cancer claimed LJ on Sep 6, 2013, months before her third birthday. To think that a baby must battle this disease breaks my heart & we must do everything we can to eradicate cancer.
